New York, New York–(Newsfile Corp. – January 10, 2022) – Author and acclaimed actor, producer and playwright LBJ Harris recently announced the release of his soul piercing debut novel, When Love Calls Your Name. Harris delivers a stunning work that captures the rush of lust and the slow burn of true love in the hearts of the young.
Book Cover of When Love Calls Your Name
When Love Calls Your Name follows the life of Desmond Dawson, a young African American student wrestling with his newfound attraction to men. At college, he gives himself permission to explore his own desires while grappling with the pressures of an intolerant society. Before long, Desmond is initiated into the high-class gay underworld, where he captures the attention of an influential-and potentially dangerous-closeted businessman.
Set against the backdrop of a small mid-1970s New Jersey town, When Love Calls Your Name explores themes of experimentation and promiscuity through Desmond’s eyes. Harris expertly contrasts the overarching expectations of society against Demond’s fight to find his true self.
When Love Calls Your Name will resonate with fans of E. Lynn Harris and adult readers. The author hopes that his work will encourage readers to recall their ‘first time’ and the emotional connections they formed throughout their lives. Desmond’s story is about more than hope or self-acceptance-it’s a challenge to the audience to step beyond the confines of parental values, mainstream approval, and hiding in plain sight.
